Despite the wildly inappropriate rhetoric from their "leaders," they called off their dogs for this one (no apparent rioting and looting)... for now....

I suppose their calculations are that rioting and looting over the three guilty verdicts.... (they ran the table by running over the "jurors")... would not be seen favorably by some still majority of the American people....

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Attorney Eric Nelson has filed a motion for a new trial for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd.

Nelson filed the motion on the grounds of juror misconduct, and that the court abused its discretion for failing to agree to the defense’s requests for a change of venue and sequestering the jury.

The filing comes in the midst of a controversy surrounding a photo of juror Brandon Mitchell at the March on Washington last August, which included speeches from George Floyd’s family members. He is seen wearing a T-shirt that says “Get Your Knee Off Our Necks.” In his juror questionnaire, Mitchell wrote that he had not attended any protests over police brutality. Mitchell told WCCO Monday that he was at the march in support of ramping up voter turnout for the 2020 presidential election.

“Either way, I was going to D.C. for this event, even if George Floyd was still alive,” Mitchell said.

A federal grand jury has indicted the four former Minneapolis police officers involved in George Floyd’s arrest and death, accusing them of willfully violating the Black man’s constitutional rights as he was restrained face-down on the pavement.

A three-count indictment unsealed Friday names Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, J. Kueng, and Tou Thao.

Specifically, Chauvin is charged with violating Floyd's right to be free from unreasonable seizure and unreasonable force by a police officer. Thao and Kueng are also charged with violating Floyd’s right to be free from unreasonable seizure, alleging they did not intervene to stop Chauvin as he knelt on Floyd's neck. All four officers are charged for failing to provide Floyd with medical care.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer convicted of murdering George Floyd, has been sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison.

Chauvin was sentenced by Judge Peter Cahill Friday afternoon at the Hennepin County Government Center, though he left most of his reasoning to a 22-page document he did not read aloud in the courtroom.

“Part of the mission of the Minneapolis Police Department is to give citizens ‘voice and respect.’ Here, Mr. Chauvin, rather than pursuing the MPD mission, treated Mr. Floyd without respect and denied him the dignity owed to all human beings and which he certainly would have extended to a friend or neighbor,” Cahill wrote. “In the Court’s view, 270 months, which amounts to an additional ten years over the presumptive 150-month sentence, is the appropriate sentence.”

The sentencing order indicates that Chauvin will be prohibited from owning firearms or ammunition following his sentencing, and will need to register as a predatory offender going forward.-- excerpt, rest at link above --

The inmate and ex-FBI informant who allegedly stabbed ex-Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin in prison was charged with attempted murder on Friday.

U.S. Attorney’s Office in Arizona announced the charges against inmate John Turscak, including assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in a serious bodily injury.

Federal prosecutors said Derek Chauvin was stabbed 22 times in prison by a gang leader, who was also a former FBI informant.

John Turscak was charged with assault with intent to commit murder, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault resulting in serious bodily injury on Friday. The attempted murder and assault with intent to commit murder charges are each punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Turscak had been scheduled to complete his current sentence in 2026.

Turscak is accused of stabbing Chauvin 22 times on Nov. 24 at the law library of the Federal Correctional Institution in Tucson, Arizona. Turscak reportedly told correctional officers that he would have killed Chauvin had they not responded so quickly. Officers reportedly used pepper spray to subdue Turscak.

The 52-year-old inmate attacked Chauvin with an “improvised knife” with the “intent to do bodily harm” and to “commit murder,” according to the New York Post.

The knife attack happened around 12:30 p.m. on Black Friday, prosecutors said. Turscak reportedly told FBI agents that he purposely attacked Chauvin on Black Friday as a symbolic connection to the Black Lives Matter movement and the "Black Hand" symbol associated with the Mexican Mafia criminal organization.

The Associated Press reported, "Turscak, who is serving a 30-year sentence for crimes committed while a member of the Mexican Mafia prison gang, told investigators he thought about attacking Chauvin for a month because he is a high-profile inmate but denied wanting to kill him, prosecutors said."-- excerpt, rest at link above --
