The Democrats claim Trump is mishandling the coronavirus threat and that they’d do better. They’re wrong. Their proposals are redundant, vapid, or dangerous.

During the recent debate, three candidates discussed coronavirus:

Amy Klobuchar urged treatment and quarantine – which is (a) obvious and (b) what Trump is doing. She accused Trump of ignoring the world (he hasn’t) and wants to improve education.

Biden did his inevitable “I already did that response,” referring to Ebola (which, thankfully for America, stayed in Africa).

Bernie Sanders accused Trump of idiocy for predicting the virus would end in April. What Trump said was that influenzas generally go away once winter ends, something that is scientifically correct. Bernie said he would work with WHO (which Trump has done).

In addition to those statements, all three say Trump cannot address coronavirus because he withdrew funds from the CDC and NIH.

On Wednesday, Pelosi issued a formal statement that also says Trump cannot fight the virus because he has shrunk government:

Coronavirus prompts Saudi Arabia to limit travel to holy sites – months ahead of hajj pilgrimage

Saudi Arabia on Thursday said it will block foreigners from traveling to Mecca and the Kaaba, the cube-shaped structure at the center of the annual hajj pilgrimage, out of concern over the spread of the coronavirus.

The travel limits also apply to the Prophet Muhammad’s mosque in Medina, according to the Associated Press.

TOKYO — Japan is announcing the closure of schools nationwide to help control the spread of the coronavirus.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he asked all elementary, middle and high schools to remain closed until spring holidays begin in late March.

The measure comes amid growing concern about the rise in the number of untraceable cases in northern Japan and elsewhere. Japan now has more than 890 cases, including 705 from a quarantined cruise ship.

Officials in Japan’s northernmost main island of Hokkaido said earlier Thursday they were closing all 1,600 elementary and middle schools in the island prefecture, with the governor saying the coming one to two weeks are crucial in fighting the virus.

I don't mean to sound ignorant, but this thing is very confusing to me.... is it "like" the typical flu illnesses that we have here seasonally each year? is it worse?

Assuming that most of the deaths are from the elderly and immune compromised sectors of the population, how does it impact an otherwise healthy adult? Just stay in bed and get through it?

The best I can determine @EdJames the problem may be no one yet has determined the severity and treatability of this strain of flu. It appears the number of deaths in China is driving the global panic.

I'd like to know a bit more about the accessibility and quality of health care in China ... not for the upper crust ... but for the millions and millions of "average" and poor Chinese citizens. One would think at least a couple of "reporters" would be curious about this, too.
